Isn’t that simply stereotypical risk avoidance? Large punishments carry more pain that large rewards offer pleasure. The odds could be 50/50 but losing/winning 10 at a time is much scarier than winning/losing 1. That doesn’t make choosing a less risky strategy “optimal” or not.
