The paralllels between the 1020s financial boom and the subsequent Great Depression, and the current period marked by financial sophistication and ‘new economy’ are disturbing: both periods were marked by a cycle of euphoric expectations, technological innovations, asset prices bubbles and financial liberalisation…..Yet as Minsky warned, financial stability is always destabilising, and current tranquility can be deceptive.
